Fundamental Internet Marketing Advice To Make Your Business Grow

By Jorge Luis Borges

Have you ever wondered how some businesses got to be so successful on the internet? Their success did not come by luck, but it came by knowing how to market effectively on the internet. You can also gain that knowledge. Find out some of the things that these marketers did to achieve success.

If you are going to run a blog on your site, run a second blog outside of your site or vice versa. By having two avenues of information out there you can target those who do not want to feel the pressure of being on a site where they might have to buy something. However, the power of the external blog can drive them to the main site and create a buyer.

It is imperative to use a mailing list that features your clients. Include a place on your website for visitors to request information. Use these emails and the ones you acquire during purchases to compile your mailing list. Use your mailing list to send out information about discounts and new products.

You can use your website to determine how well your direct physical marketing is doing. When you send out your next flyer or postcards, leave a link to a page on your website that is not linked elsewhere. By tracking the hits you receive on that page, you'll know how many people are engaged in your physical marketing efforts.

When using a website to market a product online, you need to be able to view your site as if you don't own it. As the business owner and website designer, your view of your site might be blinkered. You could be missing obvious problems that can be seen if you try to forget that it's your site.

Keep the background on your site very light and manageable. The darker the background on the site, the harder it will be for your visitors to view your products. Also, a dark background can create a morose and gloomy atmosphere, which could alter a customer's mood when they visit your site.

Post video on your website and on video-sharing websites. Video is a big draw to customers. Plus by having it on various video-sharing websites, you'll have another avenue for people to discover your business. Try reviewing new products on a weekly basis or have weekly interviews with people involved with your business.

One good strategy for ensuring a continual stream of new content is to integrate a blog into your website. New content attracts the search engines and raises your rank, so having a blog that is updated regularly will help make sure that your site always offers something new and appealing to visitors.

Never allow software to do what you can do a better job of manually. Most people use software as a shortcut to marketing for no other reason than it provides a shortcut. This is bad for your business in the long run. If you can do a better job at something, put in the extra time to make sure you're emphasizing quality.

A great way to make sure that you're always getting something done is to put yourself on a schedule. Part of the work-from-home allure is being your own boss and setting your own hours, but this is just fluff marketers are selling you so you actually buy their products. Treat marketing as a real job you must finish within a certain time-frame.

If you are using AJAX or Flash, do not use it very much. Most search engines ignore flash content within your website. If you must use Flash, use them sparingly and add keywords and navigation links on the pages with Flash.

When is the last time you clicked on a screeching, neon flashing banner ad with an animated cartoon animal that had absolutely nothing to do with the product it was advertising? Exactly. Banner ads can be a highly useful and economical internet marketing tool, but your business will be better served by a professional-looking ad that entices and informs the viewer.
