Dry ice is a method of cleaning that is classified under carbon dioxide cleaning. This method makes use of the solid form of carbon dioxide to clean surfaces. Thus, users do not have to worry about obtaining government approval before they can use this abrasive media.

The method is also beneficial as it eliminates the exposure of employees to chemical cleaning products. Some cleaning agents are normally dangerous upon exposure to people. So by employing this method, companies do not need to obtain stringent government permits and approvals. The whole process is made easier and cheaper by this. Also, using this method prevents secondary waste or chemical residue from being created.

Dry ice pellets do not melt like other solid gases. Therefore, no wastes and residues are created. Instead, these pellets change into gas from solid state minus converting into a liquid first. This conversion occurs once the pellets hit the surface that one is cleaning. Usually, heat is created by the impact causing sublimation of the pellets into the air. The need to do serous clean-up of the site after cleaning is eliminated by this.

The only waste created at the work site comprises of dislodged media from the surface. A vacuum cleaner can clean such dirt easily. Also, washing away the dirt is possible if such action is allowed for by its nature. One should wear gloves, helmet, boots, and apron. Since carbon dioxide is a cryogenic gas, it is important to ensure that the site of work is properly ventilated. This is important because a small amount of dry ice can sublime to form a very huge amount of carbon dioxide gas. Thus, suffocation can occur very easily if necessary precautions are not taken.
