Everyday a factory worker hears the hum of machinery and equipment inside an industrial facility. This large force struggles with daily operations in order to meet production quotas. When the earth was but just a primal soup and there was but one big landmass, a sturdy creature roamed and wandered over the land. The commonest element that can be found is iron with a chemical symbol Fe. It is very plentiful as it is a product of cosmic forces that formed the planet.

Metal has been used since ancient time especially those that have low heating qualities. The Bronze Age was at time when this type was commonly used for implements and tools of war. As term implies, it was an age when bronze was the king simply because it was easy to melt. It is also light and very malleable.

Unprocessed rocks are withdrawn from the inner depths of the earth in many ways. Quarrying is one of these. Tools and machines are used to remove topsoil to uncover the source. In early days this meant the use of a large manpower base. But modern techniques have made withdrawals easy and frequently.

Exploding the insides of rocks using dynamites or other explosives is the most dangerous way of accessing the source of rich, unrefined rocks and the hidden treasure that it covers. Explosives are very dangerous and explosions can hurt individuals even from far away. It can even cause minor tremors. Only experts in demolition are allowed to handle these.

Open pit mining is now the common practice of extracting ores from the planet. These are very large excavating operations that involve various types of heavy equipment. Gigantic earth movers carry topsoil to the sidelines while motorized excavators do the digging. Rock cutting machinery are also used as are individual power tools.

The use of steel in most heavy industries today knows no end. Giant shipyards use tons and tons of steel to build ships that can carry heavy tonnage. The care manufacturing industry mostly uses metal in production vehicles. Alternative materials are now being pushed to ease the use of steel and its derivatives.
