Selling of items belonging to tenants is allowed by the law. The contract that one signs before renting the space usually contains a clause that gives the facility the right to access the space and sell personal belongings. The tenant has not legal recourse in such an event. Usually, there is some period that one is allowed before that step is taken. Selling personal belongings is the last course of action and it terminates the lease and nullifies the contract as well.

The reasons for which people rate spaces are diverse. One of the most common reason is to safe-keep sensitive items and documents. If a home can no longer provide the necessary safety for sensitive items and documents, one of the most viable places to keep them is in a rental locker. Most people can usually afford the low fee charged.

Since this industry began in the United States, it is also most widespread and common there than in any other country. The industry is very huge in the US, amounting to some 2.3 billion square feet of rental space available for renting to the public. The industry continues to grow every day.
