Long Island Advertising Agencies: What Are Spectacles?

By Paula Hess

If you haven't heard of Spectacles, chances are that you weren't the only one. Unveiled by Snapchat, this was the social media company's first foray into the hardware market. Spectacles, on the surface, appear to be simple sunglasses. However, they can be used to record videos before they're shared to Snapchat. Growth of said hardware has been slow, however. Here is what you should know, courtesy of Long Island advertising agencies.

While Spectacles had limited availability to begin with, these sunglasses would soon become available to a bigger market. Despite this brave move, it failed to live up to its potential, as the demand didn't meet the increased supply. Many units were left unsold, as the likes of fishbat can attest. One could argue that this is mostly due to price, but Long Island advertising agencies across the board may be able to note other factors as well.

The slow growth of Spectacles is unfortunate, mainly due to the fact that the premise itself is unique. If someone is an avid Snapchat user, they may not want to open their phone to record a video before sharing it out. These sunglasses would be able to carry out the same function. In addition, depending on your tastes, Spectacles may be used as a unique fashion trend. Nonetheless, the slow progress of the technology in question can't be denied.

What could have been done in order to make Spectacles a hotter project? It's difficult to say, mainly because this project seems to have a niche appeal. Could a lower price tag entice users? Maybe more awareness could have been generated by Snapchat to help make more people aware of the product in question. After all, if no one knows that a product exists, its sales will not live up to the potential it could reach.

The slow progress of Spectacles isn't indicative of Snapchat as a whole. As a matter of fact, many people still use this social channel to record and share videos with those they're connected with. More than anything else, the Spectacles situation shows that, at times, jumping into the hardware market can be a difficult task. Not every project sticks the landing and Spectacles is further proof of this. It's safe to assume that this piece of hardware will become a distant memory.
