Simple Tips And Tricks For Paraffin Removal

By Jerry Olson

There are several types of waxes used in everyday life, but paraffin is probably the most common one. Candle wax is sometimes hard to remove, especially from your clothes, different surfaces or even camera lenses. When it comes to paraffin removal, there are several chemical substances that can be helpful, such as toluene or xylene. These non-polar solvents work great dissolving paraffin.

Although some other non-polar solvents also can be useful, for example petrol and gasoline, it is not advisable to use them, because of their smell, as well as for the possibility of making damages to your textiles or furniture. Don't try to use acetone and similar products, because these are not non-polar solvents and won't make any good.

The stains on your clothes are the most common ones. Remove what you can first, and leave the clothes in your freezer for some time. When wax is frozen, it crack easily, and it is much simpler to remove it. Simply scrub it away using something that wouldn't damage the textile, for example plastic knife or spatula.

Once the majority is removed, use paper towels and warm iron for melting and removing the rest of it. It might be necessary to repeat this several times, depending on the material. Once this is done, you may simply wash your clothes in warm water and detergent. Really sensitive fabrics might require dry cleaning instead.

Carpet won't fit in your freezer, and freezing is really the best method. So, use the ice pack instead. If you don't have any, simply fill a bag with ice, or take a pack of frozen vegetables instead. Scrap as much as it is possible. Use a brush and a hair dryer to remove the particles that might remain there. Colored waxes might leave colored stains, remove them with carpet cleaning products.

If you want to clean your furniture or even marble surfaces, one simple method might be highly useful. First, you have to scrub away as much as you can. Use plastic knife or something similar that won't cause damages. Apply generous quantity of warm vegetable oil on it, let it rest for a while, and then use an old toothbrush to mix it all together and brush everything away. Wash in warm soap water.

When you have to remove paraffin stains from your glasses, lenses or other similar surfaces, the first step is the same, you have to scrape off the big chunks. Use hard plastic spatula or something that will not make damage to the surface. If it is possible, freeze the area using ice packs. After that, use your hair dryer to melt the residues, and then you will easily remove the rest of it.

In the end, using hair wax on your skin can also leave residues. Although they can be removed using warm water and soap, it is so much easier to remove them with warm olive oil first. Use some soft cloth and apply a generous quantity of olive oil on your skin. Let it there for a few seconds, and gently remove all wax residues.
