LSU Items Of Memorabilia Are Available For Fans

By Jerry Barnes

College sports fans can be fanatics. Some will plan family vacations, call in sick to work, and miss birthdays and anniversaries, because of a special rivalry game or a championship competition. This seems to be especially true in the South, and Louisiana State University undergraduates and alumni are part of that culture. Some Tiger enthusiasts will don war paint and dress in school colors just for a game they watch at home. LSU items of memorabilia are treasured by these dedicated fans.

Tiger fans who have the means, and the room in their homes, might dream of replicating the stadium in a special screening room complete with redesigned coliseum seating taken straight from the bleachers. These types of seats can be purchased whenever they are removed because of wear or remodeling. It is usually not too difficult to restore them to their original condition. Many fans are happy to spend the time and money to do so.

While football is probably the number one sport for most fans, Louisiana basketball enthusiasts will let you know right away that number thirty-three means only one thing. This was Shaquille O'Neal's number when he played for the Tigers in the nineteen nineties. It is not unusual to find an oversize photograph of the legend, working his magic on the court, hanging somewhere in their houses.

Football is far and away the most popular sport in the South, and Billy Cannon is still one of the college's most beloved sportsmen. The Heisman trophy winner was consistently voted player of the year and was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and the National College Football Hall of Fame. You can purchase a mini helmet or photograph of a sports legend for your collection.

The signatures of other talented athletes is sought after as well. Most Louisiana sports enthusiasts would love to own a photo of Odell Beckman or Patrick Peterson in one of their signature moves. The most popular pictures of course, have been taken while they are on their way to a winning touchdown or celebrating in the end zone.

Signed footballs, helmets, and other pieces of equipment, are for sale in sports stores and online, but they are not as plentiful as the photos. Jerseys that were actually worn by famous sports figures are rare, and when they do come on the market, often sell for thousands and thousands of dollars. Even signed jerseys are hard to find sometimes, and can be quite expensive.

Anyone who has memorabilia of value will want to make sure they are stored and displayed correctly. Most photos you purchase will come enclosed in frames as a part of the cost. That may not be the case with helmets, footballs, basketballs, or jerseys. These articles should be put into special cases and kept free of dust and bright sunlight. These cases can be customized with logos and pedestals to enhance the presentation.

If you don't know what to get a sports fan for a birthday, anniversary, or holiday present, consider a piece of Louisiana State's athletic history in the form of signed memorabilia. It is sure to be treasured and appreciated.
